Our campsite is perfectly located to explore the best of rural central France, with plenty to see and do just a short drive away.
The market town of La Châtre is just 15 minutes’ drive, offering supermarkets, shops, restaurants, cafés, petrol stations and a traditional Saturday market, along with motorhome service points. You’ll also find a local market on Tuesdays in Saint-Août, just 10 minutes away.
Nearby, the Circuit de La Châtre (15 minutes’ drive) hosts regular car racing, track days and motorbike events, while Lignières (15 minutes’ drive) is known for horse racing and equestrian activities.
The area is also rich in culture—visit the former home of George Sand (around 15 minutes’ drive), with its beautiful house and gardens open to visitors.
Garden lovers can visit the beautiful PrieurĂ© Notre-Dame d’Orsan (around 15 minutes’ drive), a unique medieval-inspired garden made up of themed “rooms” filled with flowers, herbs and vegetables.
For outdoor activities, Lac de Sidiailles (around 30 minutes’ drive) offers swimming, woodland walks, paddleboarding, kayaking and an adventure park with zip lines through the trees—perfect for both relaxation and a little adventure. A little further afield, Lac d’Éguzon (around 55 minutes’ drive), one of the largest lakes in the region, is ideal for watersports, beaches, boat trips and lakeside restaurants. Closer to the campsite, Ligny Lake (around 25 minutes’ drive) provides a quieter setting for peaceful walks and enjoying nature.
Nature enthusiasts will enjoy exploring the Brenne Regional Natural Park (around 45 min drive), often referred to as the “land of a thousand lakes”, and well known for its wildlife and excellent birdwatching.
For memorable days out, the impressive Château de Valençay (just over 1 hour’s drive) is set within a stunning 53-hectare park, offering elegant interiors, landscaped gardens and woodland walks. A little further on, ZooParc de Beauval (around 1 hour 15 minutes’ drive) is one of the most popular attractions in France. Set within beautifully landscaped grounds, it is home to over 35,000 animals, including giant pandas, big cats, elephants, primates and even manatees, and is well known for its conservation and breeding programmes.
The area is also home to several small, authentic vineyards, perfect for discovering the lesser-known wines of the Berry region. Just 25–30 minutes away, the Châteaumeillant wine area offers relaxed, family-run wineries where you can enjoy tastings of local reds and the region’s unique “gris” rosé. A little further afield, the wine regions of Reuilly and Valençay produce excellent Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines—ideal for a relaxed day out.
Right on your doorstep, the village of Saint Christophe en Boucherie comes alive in summer with a Friday night festival (June 26th to September 4th), just a 3-minute walk from the campsite, featuring live music, local food and wine stalls. The village also has a restaurant (La Relais) and a beautiful patisserie.
